Silicone Removal

Extracting silicone from the body can be an arduous task, even for an experienced surgeon. When the silicone has already spread and created complications, surgical intervention is required for removal. Depending on the case, some surgeons may suggest using liposuction to eliminate substantial buildups of silicone, while others warn against it as it may exacerbate the spreading and advocate for excision surgery instead. Silicone and other substances have been injected into the face and almost every other body part you could imagine. The most common foreign body injections at this time are performed for buttock, hip, lip, and face augmentation. Removing silicone through surgery may necessitate one, two, or more procedures to extract as much of the substance as possible. However, the process can lead to various complications such as tissue necrosis or death, incision separation, poor wound healing or scarring, deformities, multiple surgeries, extended hospital stays, seroma formation, infection, bleeding, and the need for multiple reconstructive surgeries, among other potential complications.

The Process

1.      Meet with the Dr.

2.      Create a surgical plan that is right for you.

3.      Schedule your surgery.

4.      Get a medical clearance to clear you for surgery.

5.      Schedule your pre-op before surgery.

6.      Take pre-op photos.

7.      Have surgery.

8.      Return to the office for your post-op visit.
