Arm Tuck
An arm tuck, also known as an arm lift or brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the upper arms. It is typically performed on individuals who have excess skin and fat in the upper arms, which can be caused by factors such as aging, weight loss, or genetics. If you have sagging or drooping upper arms that give the appearance of batwings when you raise your arms, you may be a suitable candidate for brachioplasty surgery.
During the arm tuck procedure, the surgeon makes incisions in the upper arm, removes excess skin and fat, and tightens the remaining skin to create a more toned and contoured appearance. The incisions are typically made in inconspicuous areas, such as the underside of the arm, to minimize visible scarring. Arm tuck surgery is usually performed under general or local anesthesia and can take several hours to complete. Recovery time varies, but most patients can return to normal activities within a few weeks, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for several weeks after the surgery.
As with any surgical procedure, arm tuck surgery carries certain risks, including bleeding, infection, scarring, and nerve damage. It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure with a qualified plastic surgeon before deciding whether it is right for you.
Following the Arm tuck procedure, your incisions will be covered with bandages to promote healing, while a tight-fitting compression garment will be worn to reduce swelling. Additionally, there may be small tubes under your skin to drain any excess fluid.
Recovery from an arm lift surgery also involves:
Regularly change the bandages and elevate your arm as needed. Taking adequate rest and maintaining a healthy diet, which facilitates the healing process. Avoiding any physically demanding activities or lifting heavy objects during the recovery phase. Wearing the compression garment for a few weeks.
