Ear Surgery

Otoplasty, also knows are Ear Pinning, Ear Pinback, or Ear Reduction Surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that permanently corrects protruding ears.  It can correct a defect in the ear structure that is present at birth that becomes apparent with development, or it can treat misshapen ears caused by injury. Ear surgery creates a natural shape while bringing balance and proportion to the ears and face.

Ear Surgery Can Treat:

• Torn Earlobe; caused by trauma, heavy hoop earrings or a botched piercing

• Macrotia ; overly large ears

• Protruding ears occurring on one or both sides in varying degrees

• Adult dissatisfaction with previous ear surgery

• Cup Ear; irregular development of the outer ears

• Lop Ear or Bat Ear; edge of the ear grows at a sharp and protruding angle.

• Cauliflower Ear; caused by crush injury to ear cartilage

• Shell Ear; missing folds and creases

What Happens During Surgery?

Incisions for otoplasty are generally made on the back surface of the ear. When incisions are necessary on the front of the ear, they are made within its folds to hide them. Internal, non-removable sutures are used to create and secure the newly shaped cartilage in place.  The procedure in no way affects the patient’s ability to hear.

Possible risks or complications:

• Blood clot

• Infection

• Unfavorable scarring

• Cosmetic dissatisfaction

The Process

3. Schedule your surgery.

4. Get a medical clearance to clear you for surgery.

5. Schedule your pre-op before surgery

6. Take pre-op photos.

7. Have surgery.

8. Return to the office for your post-op visit
