Lip Lift

As we get older, our lips undergo transformations in shape and size. The vermilion (red part) of the lip decreases in height, while the skin-covered portion of the upper lip (cutaneous lip) becomes longer. This results in a loss of volume from both parts of the lip, leading to a loss of lip contour, including the "white roll" and the "Cupid's bow." Age-related skin changes and repeated muscle movement may cause vertical lines on the upper and lower lips.

These changes can make the mouth and lips appear less youthful. If you are not satisfied with your lip size or shape, a lip lift may be an option. This procedure involves making a subtle incision under the base of the nose to lift the upper lip, restoring a more aesthetically pleasing balance between the skin and red lip. It can also narrow the space between the upper lip and nose base, enhancing your appearance and revealing more of your teeth and smile. After the procedure, the upper lip will look fuller because more of the lip is now exposed.

Using lip fillers can provide temporary results but does not address the underlying aging issues. For this reason, it's essential to consult with a professional to determine the most effective and appropriate treatment for lip rejuvenation or aging lips before considering lip fillers. Using fillers prematurely can mask signs of aging and interfere with proper lip rejuvenation treatment.

The incision site for the subnasal Lip Lift is strategically located below the nose, within the natural skin crease separating the upper lip and lower nose, to minimize visibility. The extent of skin removal during the lip lift is determined by a range of factors, including the patient's objectives and the elasticity of their skin, and is customized for each patient. Potential risks associated with the Lip Lift procedure are thoroughly discussed, and various precautions are taken to minimize the likelihood of complications. Although risks such as infection or poor scarring are similar to those of any facial surgical procedure, most patients experience no issues. The Lip Lift procedure provides lasting results, as the removed skin does not regenerate. However, the natural aging process may cause the upper lip to elongate over time. While surgical scars are never completely invisible, a well-designed and skillfully executed Lip Lift can result in inconspicuous scarring that can be further disguised with makeup. Most patients do not experience pain or discomfort during the Lip Lift procedure. After the procedure, patients may use pain medication to alleviate any soreness, but typically only for a few days.
