Cheek Augmentation
Cheek implants, also known as cheek augmentation, are a type of cosmetic surgery that involves inserting silicone or other material implants into the cheeks to add volume and definition. The procedure is typically performed on patients who have naturally flat or sunken cheeks, or who have lost facial volume due to aging.
The cheek implant procedure involves making a small incision either inside the mouth or through the lower eyelid, through which the surgeon creates a pocket in the cheek tissue. The implant is then inserted into the pocket and positioned to achieve the desired shape and size. The incision is then closed with sutures, and the patient is typically advised to avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks to allow for proper healing. In addition to implants, there are other techniques for cheek augmentation, such as fat transfer and dermal fillers. In fat transfer, fat is removed from another part of the body (such as the thighs or abdomen) and injected into the cheeks to add volume. Dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid, can also be injected into the cheeks to add volume and contour.
The recovery period for cheek implant surgery varies depending on the patient's individual healing process, but most patients can expect to return to normal activities within a few days to a week after surgery. However, it is important to avoid any activities that could strain the cheek muscles or incision site for at least a few weeks after surgery to allow for proper healing.
Some risks
Like any surgical procedure, cheek implant surgery carries some risks and potential complications, such as infection, bleeding, implant displacement, and nerve damage. It's therefore important to choose a qualified cosmetic surgeon with extensive experience performing cheek implant surgery and to carefully follow all pre-and post-operative instructions provided by the surgeon to minimize the risk of complications and ensure a safe and successful outcome. It's also important to have realistic expectations about the outcome of the surgery. While cheek implants can add volume and definition to the cheeks, they are not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle and good skin care habits.
