Mini Tummy Tuck
It can be difficult to understand the distinction between a mini tummy tuck and a full tummy tuck. While many people assume that "mini" simply means a smaller incision, in medical terms, a mini tummy tuck involves removing skin from the lower abdomen without tightening the muscles above the belly button or incising around the belly button. However, only a small number of patients are suitable candidates for this approach, and unsatisfactory outcomes, such as bulging in the upper abdomen and an unnatural-looking navel, can occur if it is used for unqualified individuals.
On the other hand, a full or standard tummy tuck involves removing excess skin and fat from the area between the pubic bone and the navel and tightening the abdominal muscles above and below the belly button to achieve a flatter, firmer appearance. This technique usually involves a low-lying incision that can be concealed by most types of underwear and swimwear. The length of the incision depends on the patient's unique needs, but a shorter scar is typically used. Liposuction is often performed on the hips to enhance the natural curves of the body and provide complete torso rejuvenation.
Stop smoking. Smoking decreases blood flow in the skin and can slow the healing process. In addition, smoking increases the risk of tissue damage. If you smoke, your doctor will recommend that you stop smoking before surgery and during recovery.
Avoid certain medications. You'll likely need to avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements, which can increase bleeding.
Maintain a stable weight. Ideally, you'll maintain a stable weight for at least 12 months before having a tummy tuck. If you're severely overweight, your doctor will recommend that you lose weight before the procedure. Significant weight loss after the procedure can diminish your results.
Arrange for help during recovery. Make plans for someone to drive you home after you leave the hospital and stay with you for at least the first night of your recovery at home.
